History
The first edition of Something’s Brewing was published on the 29th of January 2021 and had thirteen pages.
The inspiration to develop an eMagazine was promoted by our chairman Steve Slark. He believed it would enable the Beverage Standards Association to promote BSA members and the Association’s training, networking, and education programmes to a wider audience.
From a solid base, the magazine was produced monthly by an outside agency. A monthly magazine was a good stepping stone to developing a readership, however bringing together all the information monthly became a challenge, especially as the information being supplied was increasing.
The magazine continued to be published during COVID. Linked to the BSA website, it was a platform to help businesses and individuals during those very challenging times. As well, the BSA’s Executive Committee took the opportunity to review the success of the magazine over the previous eighteen months. Therefore, from the September/October 2021 edition the magazine was published every two months.
At the end of 2022, it was decided to bring the magazine in-house. This was seen to ensure the use of social media and the BSA website was further integrated.
Alongside this, the partnerships that had been created with BWT water and more and EVOCA were strengthened. These moves would ensure that the content would become stronger, more in-depth, and committed to BSA members and supporters too.
Present
Currently, our two partners are BWT water and More and Jaguar Espresso Systems. Working alongside these two professional businesses Something’s Brewing has grown into a publication averaging seventy pages per issue.
The eclectic mix of stories covered enables readers to value the professionalism and strength of the Hospitality industry. This also continues the original ethos of the Association to promote training, networking and education programmes.
Though Something’s Brewing is a digital magazine, regularly the September/October edition is printed. This is sent to BSA members, distributed at Caffe Culture and the Association’s networking events in the latter part of each year.
You can read the latest magazine and all previous editions in our virtual library.
Future
Creating a magazine is always evolving and who would have known twenty years ago that in the future, digital would start to replace the printed magazine as readers preferred to read content online.
Looking forward, the editorial team will continue to produce a magazine that is relevant to the industry and the professional businesses and people who work in it.
