Christmas Trading Figures

In this week’s issue I revisit Christmas trading figures. My observations start from the premise that if the news is bad it won’t be reported, and although this is not totally true, it is supported by the fact that, in most cases the reported figures are positive, and generally quite large. So a general rule seems to be that the more companies reporting their Christmas trading, the better the market as a whole has performed.

And, given that the vast majority of reported figures are from pubs, it seems they had an OK Christmas, compared to restaurants.
