Alice Edgcumbe-Rendle from Edgcumbe Tea & Coffee Co. Ltd appears in Leaders Council podcast along side Lord Blunket
Alice was invited onto an episode of the podcast, which also included an interview with Lord Blunkett. Host Matthew O’Neill asked both guests a series of questions about leadership and the role it has played in their careers to date.
Matthew O’Neill commented, ‘Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.’
Alice is the Director of Edgcumbe Tea & Coffee Co. Ltd – a specialist provider of freshly roasted coffee and loose leaf tea for the hotel, restaurant and catering sectors. When asked “What does the word leader mean to you?” – Alice answered “It means
someone who is prepared to step up to the mark, someone who is prepared to hold their nerve when things go wrong and give people the sense that they are worth following so that they can trust them.”
With 70% of Edgcumbes’ business closing overnight due to the COVID-19 lockdown in March – Alice pivoted her business to their online retail site and on-site café. They were able to continue trading and reach their customer with an outside farm shop providing daily essentials for their local community and with the nation inevitably jumping online, Alice adapted her business focusing on the consumer rather than trade.
